The Art of Strategy
Fencing is often called “Physical Chess.” It combines multi-limb co-ordination with lightning-fast reflexes, deep tactical thinking and fine motor control, making it a unique addition to any school’s PE provision.
Curriculum Links:
- Agility and Footwork: Develops rapid change of direction and explosive leg strength.
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Precise blade work improves fine motor skills and focus.
- Tactical Awareness: Pupils learn to anticipate an opponent’s move, hitting the “Attacking and Defending” requirements of the KS2 curriculum.
- Sportsmanship: Rooted in tradition, fencing emphasises the “salute” and respect for the opponent.
